How do you perform a smith machine Romanian deadlift?

Set up

  1. Set the bar near hip height and place the safeties below your intended range.
  2. Grip the bar overhand, unlock it and stand where the rails let it stay close to your legs.

Execution

  1. Soften your knees and push your hips back as the bar descends along the rails.
  2. Stop when you reach your controlled hip-hinge limit, without rounding your back.
  3. Bring your hips forward to stand, then re-engage the hooks after the set.

Common mistakes

  • Squatting the bar down

Keep a small knee bend rather than repeatedly bending the knees deeply.

Where it fits in a session
